Men's Track wins tri-meet at UNH

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of Massachusetts men's indoor track team garnered 136 points this past weekend to win a tri-meet at the University of New Hampshire. UMass won 10 events including the 55M dash, 500M run, 800M run, 1000M run, 1500M run, 55M hurdles, 4x800M relay, high jump, pole vault, and shot put.
Leading the way for the Minutemen was junior Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accra, Ghana) who won the 55M dash for the second consecutive week. Frimpong-Boating turned in a time of 6:45 seconds, a shade under his school record 6.37 seconds set last weekend, Jan. 19th, in the 2002 New England Challenge Cup at the Boston University Armory.
Also contributing was senior tri-captain Mike Howell (Haverill, Mass.) who won the 500M run with a time of 1:08.32 and freshman Dave McMenamy (Falmouth, Mass.) who won the 800M run in 1:59.04 seconds.
Senior Kevin Curtin (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the 1500M run in 4:03.12 and classmate Ryan McNally (North Attleboro, Mass.) won the 55M hurdles in 8:09 seconds
Junior Ken Scheider (Wood Ridge, N.J.) set season-best and personal-best winning the pole vault at 14'6", and junior Eric Uliano (Haverill, Mass.) won the shot put throwing 15.17M.
Sophomore David Mullert (Rehoboth, Mass.) won the 1000M run in 2:35.42, and sophomore Keith Toffling (Tyngsboro, Mass.) won the high jump clearing 6'1".
UMass also turned a season-best in the 4x800M relay winning it in 8:06.93. Other teams competing included UNH (122 points) and Holy Cross (100).
The Minutemen return to action this coming weekend Feb. 2, at Kingston, R.I., for a quad-meet with Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maryland.
