Saturday's UMass-Richmond Football Game Postponed

Amherst, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Athletic Director Bob Marcum has announced that Saturday's football game between UMass and Richmond has been postponed indefinitely due to yesterday's tragic events.
"After consulting with people on our campus and at Richmond, we have decided to postpone Saturday's game against Richmond," Marcum said. "I know that there will be other schools around the country that will play, but I believe that every institution is different, and that you have to respect the feelings of people on your campus and within your program.
"We have received many calls from parents of our student-athletes voicing concern about competing this weekend, and we have postponed a number of our contests in other sports, too."
No makeup date for Saturday's game, which had been scheduled for 7 p.m. at McGuirk Alumni Stadium and was to be the school's second-ever home night football game, has been set. Fans should hold onto their tickets for the game until a decision about a makeup date is set by school officials.
Massachusetts will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, in a 7 p.m. game at A-10 rival Delaware.
