UMass Women's Soccer Beats Boston College in Double Overtime

AGAWAM, Mass. - University of Massachusetts' Martha Conover (Liverpool, N.Y.) dished a ball over to Brooke Bartlett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) who scored seven minutes into the second overtime to give UMass (1-0) a season opening 4-3 victory over Boston College (0-1) tonight at Agawam High School.
UMass took a 2-0 lead into halftime off goals by Kathleen Machamer (Highland Ranch, Colo.), from Alexi Rudd (Orinda, Calif.), and Stephanie Santos (Ludlow, Mass.), from Katelyn Jones (Round Lake, N.Y.) and Michelle Luttati (Westford, Mass.).
Less than five minutes into the second, Jones scored from Machamer to give the Minutewomen a 3-0 advantage, but BC struck back scoring three goals of their own in the second stanza to send the game into overtime. Meghan Moore, Lindsey Fairweather and Katherine Holloran scored the goals for the Eagles.
UMass goalkeeper Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) had eight saves while Meredith Crotty had one for BC, which outshot UMass 18-7.
UMass opens its home season as host to No. 10 University of Connecticut on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Totman Field. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
