USRowing Announces World Championship Roster

AMHERST, Mass. -- USRowing announced its 2001 National Team roster on Saturday, August 4. The roster includes four University of Massachusetts crew alumni. The team will compete at the 2001 FISA World Rowing Championships August 19-26 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Wendy Wilbur (East Bridgewater, Mass) will be competing in the Women's Eight. The only veteran, Wilbur is a five-time national team member and has won two medals in the world championships. Sarah Jones (Stanwood, Wash.) earned a spot in the Women's Quadruple Sculls crew. Jones will bring experience to the boat having competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. The roster also includes Michelle Whitcomb Borkuis (Walworth, N.Y. ) who will be competing in two events at the World Championships, the Women's Pair and the Women's Lightweight Pair.
Gavin Blackmore (Worcester, Mass.) earned a spot on the Men's Lightweight Eight roster.
The U.S. will be racing in 23 of the 24 events at this year's world championships. Last year the U.S. won four medals at the non-Olympic world championships.
