Amherst, Mass. - The UMass Volleyball program announced the signing of three players for the 2002 volleyball season. Height was a plus as the three commitments that the UMass squad has received are stand over six feet tall. "With the loss of two middles and two outside hitters we feel that the three student-athletes we have will fill the void," said head coach Bonnie Kenny. "All three of these players have the potential to come in and help our program immediately and that is really exciting. All three bring lots of good high school experience as well as national play through their club teams. They will complement the players that we have returning next year and bring us immediate strength and size at the net. We expect big things from this class and that does not just mean their height."

Rachel Adomat is a 6' 1 outside hitter from Houston, Texas. She was a two-time All-District 15-5A first team honoree from Westfield High School and is a member of the Texas Elite Volleyball club team. " Rachel is a true 6'1 outside hitter and is the biggest outside hitter that we have ever recruited to UMass. She has an arsenal of shots and is a very versatile hitter. We figure Rachel to be in the mix to contribute a lot this coming year".

Megan McGrath is a 6'1 middle hitter who hails from Gibsonia, Pa. She was a member of the State Finalist Pine-Richland High School Volleyball team and is a member of the Renaissance Volleyball club team. "Megan is the type of player that will be hard for me to keep off the floor," said Kenny. "She is very competitive and very athletic. Once she gets used to the level of play in college she will compete for a starting spot this fall".

Alexandria "Niecy" Taylor is a 6'1 middle hitter from Albuquerque, N.M. Taylor was a member of the Cibola High School squad and led her team to a state tournament berth last year. "Niecy is a middle blocker with tons of potential," said Kenny. "She has very good leaping abilities and is one of the top players in New Mexico this year. We expect her to come in and give us added depth in the middle and vie for a starting position." Niecy was also named to the all-state team and received numerous honors from her high school team including MVP.

"All three of these young women are excellent student athletes," said Kenny. "They will each have a chance to contribute and help our program. Although they all have well rounded traits they will compliment each other very well because of their personalities. We feel very good about signing Rachel, Niecy, and Megan early and look forward to a bright future with all of them on and off the court."
