WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Massachusetts volleyball team (13-11 overall, 6-8 A-10) recorded its second- consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference win by knocking off George Washington (6-14 overall, 3-1 A-10) 3-1, Friday evening at the Smith Center.
Sophomore Nitia Small (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Minutewomen with 18 kills on the evening. She also added four digs and nine blocks. Senior Lymarie Llovet (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) recorded 15 kills and 14 digs, while junior Clare Baxter (Miami, Fla.) posted seven kills and five digs for the Maroon and White.
The Minutewomen, who recorded a .167 hitting percentage on the night, took the first two games from the Colonials 34-32 and 30-27 before GW managed a 30-23 win in game three. UMass bounced back by posting a .277 hitting percentage to take the match with a 30-26 win in game four.
GW's Ruth Lazzari led all players with 24 kills. She also added 17 digs.
The Minutewomen will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on A-10 foe Fordham on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Bronx, N.Y.
