BRONX, N.Y. - Freshman Carly Turman (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to lift the No. 25 University of Massachusetts to a 2-1 victory over Fordham in women's soccer action this afternoon.

The Minutewomen opened the scoring in the 12th minute when senior Kathleen Machamer (Highland Ranch, Calif.) converted on a header off a corner kick. Junior Alexi Rudd (Orinda, Calif.) assisted on the goal.

Fordham tied the game, 1-1, in the 20th minute when Elena Daragiati scored from 10 yards out off a crossing pass from Kristin Gellatly.

Turman scored the game-winner on a header off a corner kick. Senior Brooke Bartlett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) assisted on the goal. It was Turman's second of the season.

UMass senior goaltender Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) had seven saves in the game for UMass, while Fordham goaltender Shannon Misiaszek made two saves in the losing cause. The victory improves UMass to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, while the loss drops Fordham to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in the A-10.

The Minutewomen return to action Sunday, Oct. 7, when they take on La Salle at 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
