UMass Volleyball Falls To Dayton, 0-3

Dayton, Ohio.- The University of Massachusetts volleyball team dropped to first-place Dayton University this evening in straight games, 0-3, (29-31, 22-30, 25-30) at the Fredricks Center. The loss drops the Minutewomen to 4-7 in the Atlantic 10 and 11-10 overall while the Flyers improve to 9-1 in the A-10 and 16-4 overall.
UMass stayed even with the Flyers in game one, eventually dropping the game 29-31. The Minutewomen terminated 17 kills in the game to Dayton's 15 but committed three more hitting errors to let the Flyers slip away with the win.
Games two and three saw UMass' offensive struggles continue as it hit for .000 in game two and .163 in game three while the Flyers hit a steady .275 and .260 to close out the match with the 3-0 sweep.
Clare Baxter (Miami, Fla.) led the Minutewoman attack as she hit for .500 with a team-high 11 kills and two blocks. Nitia Small (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected eight kills in the effort and Lauren Vander Veen (Oakland, Calif.) added six kills. Janeen DeMarte (El Paso, Texas) and Lymarie Llovet (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) led the defensive stand with 10 and nine digs, respectively. UMass finished the match with a .108 hitting percentage, it's third lowest hitting percentage of the season.
Dayton was led by Xinxin Zhang with 14 kills and Katie Ferriell with 13 kills, 10 digs and six blocks.
UMass continues play on the road as they face Xavier tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 27, for a 7:00 p.m. match.
