AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman quarterback Matt Guice (Coral Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Ptah Myers (Columbus, Ohio) were named WHMP/UMass co-Athletes of the Week, it was announced Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon.
Guice completed 23 of 47 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns in the football team's 43-20 win over James Madison on Saturday. With his 1,312 yards this season, he set a school record for passing yards by a freshman, and his 735 yards passing over the past two weeks is nearly a hundred yards better than the previous school record for a two-game total. His five touchdowns tosses tied a school record, and on Saturday, he became the first UMass passer to throw for over 300 yards in two consecutive games since 1998.
Myers, who scored four goals in the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team's 5-0 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon, was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts on the weekend. Myers became only the seventh player in school history to score four goals in a single game.
The football team travels to Philadelphia this weekend to take on Villanova. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. The men's soccer team continues Atlantic 10 action next weekend, as they welcome Richmond to Totman Field for a 3:00 p.m. match on Friday. They will then close out the home portion of their schedule next Sunday, when they face George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
