Women Finish Season at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Melissa Ward (Franklinville, N.Y.) set a new personal best and came within 100 points of the UMass heptathlon record, leading UMass to a 28th place finish at the ECAC Championships.
Georgetown won the team competition with 79 points, while UMass finished with eight points in the 47 team competition.
One of just four Minutewomen competing at the meet, Ward totalled 4,704 points in the Heptathlon. Her score is the second highest in UMass history, exceeding her personal best by 122 points.
Junior Sharyn Harrison (Naugatuck, Conn.) placed 19th in the javelin competition with a throw of 111' 11", well short of her school record 133' 6" throw earlier this season.
Sophomore Rhianna DaCruz (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed 11th in the pole vault with a leap of 10' 11.5"
Freshman Maggie Curry (Mukwonago, Wis.) finished ninth in the discus competition, capping off a tremendous rookie season with a throw of 128' 10".
The ECAC meet wrapped up the 2000 season for the Minutewomen track & field squad, finishing the season with a meet record of 7-9.
