Men's Gymnastics Captures New England Title

BURLINGTON, Vermont - UMass Senior Jeff LaVallee (Stafford Springs, CT) captured five out of six individual events, including the All-Around Title, this past Saturday at the 2000 New England Championships held on the campus of the University of Vermont.
LaVallee won the pommel horse (9.95 - a new meet record and career high), still rings (9.65), vault (9.60), parallel bars (9.95 - new career high), and the All-Around (57.80).
The only event LaVallee didn't win, teammate Byran McNulty (Springfield, VA) secured with a floor exercise score of 9.30. Just behind him finished Clayton Kent (Exeter, NH) with a solid 9.20. Kent also finished tied for third on the still rings with a score of 9.40.
As a team, UMass won the title with 221.70 points beating out its closest competitor by over 20 points.
In other events Junior Andy Leis (Suffield, CT) placed second on the pommel horse with a score of 9.85 and Western Mass. native John Szymczyk (Feeding Hills, MA) came in second with a parallel bar score of 9.15. Mike Alexander (Falls Church, VA) finished second on the High Bars with a 9.00.
