Barbee Resigns As Assistant Coach At UMass

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts assistant men's basketball coach Tony Barbee has resigned his position effective immediately, to accept a similar position at the University of Memphis under John Calipari.

Barbee spent the last season on Bruiser Flint's staff, helping the Minutemen to an overall record of 17-16, with the team advancing to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament and the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Barbee also spent two years on the UMass staff in 1996-97 and 1997-98 as the third assistant coach working with head coach Flint, and assistants John Robic and Geoff Arnold. He also spent one season as an assistant coach at Wyoming in 1998-99, with the Cowboys posting an 18-10 overall record and earning a bid to the NIT.

Barbee concluded his playing career at UMass as the school's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,643 career points. As a player under Calipari, he appeared in two NCAA Tournaments and two National Invitation Tournaments in his four-year career from 1989-93.
