UMass Women Defeat Dartmouth, 54-46

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team led by as many as 23 points in the second half, but had to hold off a late rally by Dartmouth to down the Big Green, 54-46, at the Mullins Center tonight. The win improves UMass to 3-1 on the season, while Dartmouth falls to 0-4.
UMass, which held a 50-27 lead midway through the second half, was led by senior Kathy Coyner (Belpre, Ohio) who scored all 11 of her points in the first half and added four assists. Sophomore Siiri Liivandi (Rapla, Estonia) also had 11 points to go along with three steals, and classmate Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Minutewomen as she had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Dartmouth was led Katharine Hanks' 15 points.
UMass hits the road this weekend for two games in California, as they will take on San Francisco and perennial national power Stanford on Friday and Sunday, December 1 and 3. The San Francisco game will be a 10:00 p.m. ET tip, while the Stanford contest will start at 4:00 p.m. ET and will be aired on Fox Sports New England.
