Football Tops Rhode Island, 29-21

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Marcel Shipp closed out his college career with a four-touchdown, 156-yard rushing performance as Massachusetts came back in the second half to defeat Rhode Island 29-21 on Saturday.
David Jamison rushed for 104 yards for Rhode Island (3-8, 2-6 Atlantic 10) to close out the season with 1,065 yards.
Both teams scored on their opening possessions. Shipp scored on a 4-yard run for UMass (7-4, 5-3), and then Rhode Island's Vince Nedimyer countered with a 7-yard scoring run.
Rhode Island pulled ahead 14-7 on a 76-yard pass from Nedimyer to Salim Wellington.
On the next series, Massachusetts scored on five plays, capping a 63-yard drive with a Shipp 2-yard touchdown run. Rhode Island's Marc Zlotek blocked the extra point attempt.
The two teams traded touchdowns midway through the third quarter before a Doug White 30-yard field goal late in the period put UMass up for good, 23-21.
Massachusetts increased its lead to 29-21 as Shipp scored on a 2-yard run - his fourth score of the game - with 2:06 left.
