PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Massachusetts volleyball team defeated rival Temple tonight in their regular season finale, 3-2 (2-15, 15-12, 12-15, 16-14, 15-12). With the win, UMass kept their slim playoff chances alive and must now wait to see what happens as the Atlantic-10 regular comes to a close this weekend. The Minutewomen stand in fifth place right now in the conference, and only the top four teams qualify for the postseason tournament. UMass improved to 14-13 overall with the win and 10-6 in the A-10. Temple fell to 18-9 overall and 13-3 in the conference.
Junior Lymarie Llovet (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) paced the Minutewomen on offense as she recorded a career-high 26 kills to go along with nine digs. Senior Rebecca Hasson (Riverside, Calif.) added 15 kills and nine digs for the Maroon & White, while junior Janeen DeMarte (El Paso, Texas) led the defensive effort with a match-high 19 digs. Senior setter Jenni Drennan (Long Beach, Calif.) dished out 60 assists.
Temple was led by All-America candidate Alma Kovaci, who recorded a double-double with 29 kills and 17 digs.
