Women's Tennis Tops Dartmouth, 7-2

HANOVER, NH- - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team knocked off Dartmouth today 7-2, improving to 4-1.
Freshman Fransesca Mancini (Milan, Italy) remained unbeaten as she beat Arden Fredeking in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. In third singles, freshman Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) defeated Christine Miller 6-1, 6-2. Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.), Susan Hyams (Cincinatti, Ohio), and Lindsey Gillooly (Stoughton, Mass.) all won their matches giving the Minutewomen five out of the possible six singles points. Catherine Crandall gave Dartmouth its' only singles victory by defeating UMass' Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
UMass tandems of Depontes/Mancini and Horak/Hyams won their doubles matches 8-2, 8-3, respectively earning two out of three doubles points. The Dartmouth team of Crandall/Miller defeated UMass' first doubles team of Hamilton/Gillooly to take their only doubles match.
The Minutewomen will not be in action until Friday, Oct. 27, when they will travel to Columbia University.
