Men's Gymnastics Defeats Navy, 222.050-214.800

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Jeff LaVallee (Stafford Springs, Conn.) won the all-around event to lead the University of Massachusetts men?s gymnastics team to a 222.050-214.800 victory over Navy at home on Jan. 21 in Amherst, Mass. The Minutemen now stand at 1-0 this season.
LaVallee scored a 56.800 in the all-around and captured four first-place finishes in UMass? win. He claimed the pommel horse event with a career-high 9.950 and finished first on the still rings with a 9.750. He also placed first on the parallel bars with a 9.400, while sporting a mark of 9.850 to rank first on the horizontal bar.
Junior Bryan McNulty (Springfield, Va.) won the floor exercise with a 9.600, while junior Michael Alexander (Falls Church, Va.) placed second on the vault with a mark of 9.250. Junior Andy Leis (Suffield, Conn.) claimed two second-place finishes on the parallel bars (9.300) and on the horizontal bar (9.300).
The Minutemen are next in action on Jan. 29 at M.I.T. at 2 p.m.
