Three Swimmers Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- University of Massachusetts junior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) and senior Elizabeth Risotto (Setauket, N.Y.) have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference?s men?s and women?s swimming and diving Performers of the Week, for the week ending January 9. It was announced today by the conference office. Freshman Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Week.

Arsenault was a top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly (51.80), the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.40) and in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.79), in the 179-81 win over the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., on Saturday, January 8. His times in the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly are the best by any UMass swimmer this season. The Minutemen improved to 6-2 with the win.

Risotto posted two first-place finishes as UMass lost to Miami, 135-127. She placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.80) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.71). Risotto ranks second in the 200 back and fourth in the 100 back in the Atlantic 10. The Minutewomen now have a 5-3 record.

Zaucha won the 200 back (1:58.29) and finished second in the 100 back (54.10) in the Miami win.

Both teams return to the pool on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15, when they travel to Kingston, R.I., to compete in the Rhode Island Invitational.
