Minutewoman 35th at ECAC Chapionships

FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Massachusetts
women's track and field team placed 35th at this weekend's ECAC
Championships. Leading the way for the Minutewomen was senior
Nicole Way (Marstons Mills, Mass.), who finished 10th in the
1,500 meters.
Way ran a season best in the preliminaries of the 1,500 when she
posted a mark of 4:28.25, the second best time in school history.
She would follow that with a time of 4:37.68 in the finals, good for
10th place. All three of the Minutewomen's top pole vaulters
competed in this weekend's championships. Freshman Rhianna DaCruz
(Pawtucket, R.I.) lead the Minutewomen with an 11th place finish
(10'). Freshman Heather Palmer (Sterling, Mass.) was the
second UMass finisher, 24th overall, with a mark of 10'. Freshman
Johanna Lelke (Southboro, Mass.) rounded out the trio with a
28th place finish (9' 06 1/4"). Scoring the Minutewomen's five
points was the 4x100 meter relay team. The team ran a season best
46.82 in the preliminary round and finished with a time of 46.98,
good for fourth place, in the finals. Junior Andrea Comeau
(Reading, Mass.) finished 10th in the heptathlon with 4,510
points.
Select Minutewomen will wait to see if they will compete in the
NCAA Championships on June 2-5, in Boise, Idaho.
