Men's Swimming And Diving Defeats Connecticut, 141-90

AMHERST, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts men?s swimming and diving team defeated Connecticut, 141-90 on Saturday afternoon, at UMass? Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. The Minutemen now have a 5-2 dual meet record on the season.
Senior Ed Hefferon (Stratford, Conn.) dominated the two diving events, winning the one-meter with a score of 239.48, and the three-meter with a score of 268.8. Senior Bryan Grimes (Leominster, Mass.) won the 1,000-y free with a team season top time of 9:48.28, junior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) won the 200-y free (1:42.45), senior Henry Turner (Melrose, Mass.) won the 50-y free with a team season top time of 21.75, freshman Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) won the 500-y free (4:47.40), and junior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) won the 200-y breaststroke (2:06.78). The 400-y free relay team of Arsenault, Turner, sophomore Antonio Maldonado (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Carlos Ramos (San Juan, Puerto Rico) ended the meet with a winning time of 3:10.81.
The Minutemen will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 8, when they travel to Coral Gables, Fla., to take on the Miami Hurricanes at 1:00 p.m.
