Field Hockey Falls To No. 1 Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. - Amy Herz scored two goals and added an assist to lead No. 1 University of Connecticut to a 4-1 win over the University of Massachusetts in collegiate field hockey action Sunday afternoon. UMass is now 3-6 on the season, while UConn improves to 11-0.
Herz got the Huskies on the scoreboard first with 18:18 left in the first half, taking a feed from Alison Sharpe and scoring. UConn took a 2-0 lead with a Carrie Mahoney goal just under three minutes later. Sophomore Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) brought UMass back within one with a penalty corner goal with 8:48 remaining in the first half. UConn extended its lead to 3 1 with less than a minute remaining in the first half when Herz put home her second goal of the day on a scramble in front of the net following a penalty corner. Katie Stephens scored the loan goal of the second half to give the Huskies a 4-1 advantage.
Junior goaltender Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales) had a career-high 16 saves in the UMass net, while Danielle Vile made one stop for Connecticut.
The Minutewomen return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when they travel to No. 14 Boston University. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
