Minutewomen Field Hockey Team Upsets No. 18 Dartmouth, 2-1

Amherst,Mass. - Sophomore back Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) scored the game winner to lead UMass to a 2-1 upset win over No. 18 Dartmouth College tonight in collegiate field hockey action. UMass improves to 10-8 overall, while Dartmouth falls to 9-5 on the season. Tonight?s game marked the end of the home season for the Minutewomen.

UMass got on the board early as sophomore Lindsay Abbot (Northampton, Mass.) knocked in a rebound on a penalty corner at 5:44. Bruemmer scored just a few minutes later, connecting on a penalty corner shot from junior Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.) and junior Lucy Koch (Ipswich, Mass.) to take the 2-0 lead. UMass held off the Big Green into the second half until Kim Jenkin converted on a penalty stroke at 53:11.

Junior goaltender Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales) made four saves in the UMass net in the win, while Dartmouth?s Brittany D?Augustine made four stops in the cage for the Big Green.

The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday when they travel to Boston to take on Northeastern in their final regular season game. Game time is scheduled for 1: 00 p.m.
