SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Chrissy Millbauer (Easton, Conn.) scored first for the University of Massachusetts, but Syracuse University fought back to take a 2-1 victory in collegiate field hockey action Monday afternoon. The game, originally slated to start at 3:30 p.m., started 90 minutes late when officials were late arriving to the game. UMass is now 4-8 on the season, while Syracuse improves to 8-5.

Millbauer scored for UMass 12:50 into the game when she intercepted a pass from a Syracuse defender and dribbled the ball in to the goal area and scored. The Orangewomen tied the game just under 10 minutes later when Kristin Aronowicz deflected a shot by Tracy Larkin on a penalty corner into the goal. Kelly Hambleton knocked in a crossing pass with 19:42 left in regulation to score what would be the eventual game-winner. UMass kept good pressure in the second half, outshooting the Orange 9-4 and outcornering them 5-0, but was unable to convert.

UMass goaltender Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales) made three saves in the loss, while Audrey Latsko stopped 10 shots for Syracuse.

The Minutewomen return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 when they host Providence. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
