Takehiko Nakamura joined the Massachusetts men’s soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach in July 2024. He graduated from UMass Amherst in 2004 with a Master’s in Sport Management from the Isenberg School of Management and later earned a Global Executive Master’s in International Sports Law from ISDE (Madrid).
Nakamura was part of the Aoyama Gakuin University (Tokyo, Japan) men’s soccer squad that finished as national runner-up at the 1998 Prime Minister’s Cup, All Japan College Tournament. He went on to work in international business development with Major League Soccer and FC Barcelona, supporting MLS scouting efforts for 15 years.
Returning to Amherst now as a coach, he brings both professional experience and a lasting connection to the UMass community. He has been recognized with the Alumni on the Rise Award and the Exceptional Service to McCormack Award in recognition of his contributions. Nakamura currently serves as President & CEO of Blue United Corporation and Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University.
