Cecilia Marenick moved into the Director of Student-Athlete Development role in July 2024 after joining Massachusetts Athletics in August 2023 as an Assistant Academic Counselor as a post-graduate intern, before becoming a Learning Specialist in February 2024.
As an Assistant Academic Counselor, Marenick served as a secondary academic counselor for two Olympic sports and select football and men's basketball athletes. In her role as a Learning Specialist, she was the primary academic counselor for two Olympic sports, overseeing academic progress and eligibility of teams and student-athletes.
Prior to joining UMass, Marenick was an Office Administrative Assistant/Facilitator for the East Campus Outdoor Learning Center at Springfield College. There, she planned and facilitated intentional programming on an outdoor challenge course to promote leadership and team builiding for teams, leadership groups and professional development. She also did fieldwork as an Athletic Counselor in various locations around Springfield.
Before Springfield College, Marenick was a graduate assistant in the Student Success Center at Western New England University from August 2021 to May 2022. She was also an intern in 2020 for the Student-Athelte Development department at Virginia Tech.
Marenick earned a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in Public and Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech in 2021, before receiving a Master of Education in Psychology from Springfield College in 2023. Marenick was also a member of the varsity track and field team at Virginia Tech all four years.
