After a standout collegiate career at Northwestern where she helped the Wildcats win three NCAA National Championship titles, Brianne LoManto was named assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts in August 2012. For LoManto, this marks her first job as an assistant coach and her experience in goal has been critical for the Minutewomen. In her time with UMass, the Minutewomen defense has been ranked among the nation's best over the last four seasons highlighted by a No. 1 ranking for much of the 2015 spring. She tutored goalie Rachel Vallarelli who was picked as the 2015 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year following a stellar spring. Vallarelli finished the year as the No. 1 goalie in the nation for save percentage and ranked No. 2 in goals-against-average. Her 5.77 GAA was the 11th-best for a single-season in NCAA history. The 2016 campaign saw the Minutewomen rank in the nation's top-5 for scoring defense for much of the year and finishing as the No. 9 unit after the NCAA Tournament. She once again helped produce the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year in defender Kate Farnham who was also an IWLCA All-Region selection. LoManto had the unique task of coaching a pair of young goalies in freshman Sam Walters and sophomore Aileen Kelly who split time in goal. Walters finished the year with a 17-2 overall record, while Kelly posted a 3-0 record earning wins in the Atlantic 10 title game, the NCAA first round and the NCAA second round. Walters started the first half of every game, while Kelly played the role of closer in the second half and overtime. Because of the split, neither goalie was eligible for NCAA rankings, but their goals-against-averages and save percentages would have ranked each among the top-15 in the country. Since the 2013 season, LoManto has helped UMass post three of its top five single-season performances for goals against average. In addition to the single-season record of 6.06 from 2015, UMass also gave up just 6.3 goals per game in 2014, 7.07 goals per game in 2016 and 8.1 goals per game in 2013. As a unit, the Minutewomen have posted the top four seasons in program history for caused turnovers with a high of 239 in 2015. UMass' defenders and goalies have earned a total of 12 All-Atlantic 10 accolades during her tenure including two Defensive Player of the Year honors and 22 Defensive Player of the Week honors. Regionally, the Minutewomen have had eight defensive players named to either the IWLCA All-Region first or second second team since 2013. LoManto was a three-year starting goalie at Northwestern helping the Wildcats to three national titles (2009, 2011, 2012) during her time in Evanston. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2011 and 2012 and finished her career with 448 saves which is fourth all-time at Northwestern to go along with a 8.10 goals-against-average. LoManto has also been active in lacrosse summer camps. She has served as the Goalie Camp Director for Amonte Sports Lacrosse Camps in both Chicago and Boston where she oversaw and managed all aspects of the program. The native of Miller Place, N.Y., has also worked for the Wildcat Elite Club Camp, the 91 Lacrosse Camp, Long Island Top Guns Camp and Amonte Sports Lacrosse Camps since 2009. "I'm thrilled to have a person as accomplished as Brianne on our staff," said head coach Angela McMahon. "The experience and leadership skills she brings to our program after winning three National Championships as a player is invaluable.
