Derek Schulman is entering his fourth season as a student manager with the University of Massachusetts basketball program in 2016-17, as he begins his senior year at UMass and his first year as head manager for the team. He is a sport management and finance double major in the Isenberg School of Management.

Schulman is responsible for overseeing the entire student manager staff and works closely with the coaching staff and players in completion of day-to-day operations. These duties include arranging team meals, assisting in team drills and scout teams, setting up and breaking down practices and games and ensuring all practices and games run smoothly.

In the Summer of 2014, Schulman worked with USA Basketball's U18 National Team as the squad competed in the FIBA Americas Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a manager for the team as well as worked closely with FIBA inputting live game statistics.

"It was an excellent experience and learning opportunity for me." Schulman said. "It was great getting to know that group of guys and watch them compete at such a high level."

During each of the previous two summers, Schulman interned with US Club Soccer and traveled the country organizing and running youth soccer events. As an operations and event management intern, he helped oversee more than a dozen tournaments and league events throughout the United States. He assisted the Director of Events in day-to-day operations of national soccer tournaments and performed tasks such as field layout, product placement, sales, signage distribution, customer service and general tournament organizational tasks.

Following graduation, Schulman plans to seek a graduate assistantship for a college basketball team while simultaneously earning his MBA.
