Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Jennifer Brodeur in her 15th year as an athletic trainer at the University of Massachusetts in 2020-21, which is also her 14th working with the football team and her 13th as the team's head athletic trainer.
Brodeur has been frequently lauded during her tenure at Massachusetts in recognition of her success. Most recently, she received the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award at the organization's annual conference in 2019. The accolade is given once each year to the athletic trainer who demonstrates exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and distinguished professional activities in the field.
Brodeur was elected to the NATA District One Executive Council as its Secretary, beginning June, 2020. She is also an at-large member of the NATA Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine (ICSM) Division I Subcommittee, which addresses issues affecting the student athlete and athletic trainers in Division I collegiate institutions.
In 2017, she was honored with the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee’s New Horizon Award in recognition of her attributes of a future leader in the field. She was also named the Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year by the National Athletic Trainers Association in June 2013, an award only given to one individual per year.
Previously, Brodeur tallied the 2009 Athletic Trainer Service Award at the NATA National Convention in San Antonio, Texas. She was one of just 16 recipients of the annual award that recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association. Although it is a national honor, local, state, and district service is the focus of this award.
Brodeur is currently the Past President of the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association after completing the first four years of the six-year term as President-Elect and President. She has also served as President-Elect and President of ATOM (Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts) and RIATA (Rhode Island Athletic Trainers Association). She also directs the UMass Sports Medicine undergraduate intern program and is the undergraduate education liaison with Springfield College, Westfield State University and Quinnipiac University.
Now responsible for complete oversight of athletic training department and clinical care for the football program, Brodeur previously served as the primary caregiver for the UMass men's lacrosse and swimming & diving teams.
Brodeur came to Amherst after working for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Prior to the Sun, she worked as an athletic trainer at Providence College from 2001-2006, where she worked with the lacrosse team. Before Providence, she served as an athletic trainer at Fordham University from 1998-2001.
Brodeur has a bachelor's degree from Ohio University, where she graduated in 1991. She gained her master's from Austin Peay State University in 1993.
