Tonkin joined the Massachusetts athletics department in June of 2026 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the football program.
Prior to coming to Amherst, Tonkin served as an intern athletic trainer at Cal State for the football, equestrian and swim and dive programs for one year. She helped with rehabilitating post-operative patients and collaborated with strength and conditioning coaches on post-operative student-athlete training for Pro Day for football. She also advocated for student-athletes for return-to-play timeline, completed sweat testing fro incoming athletes and directed MSAT students in daily tasks.
Before her time at Cal State, Tonkin spent a season as an athletic trainer resident for the football and women's tennis programs at Utah State. While there, she was responsible for assessing and determining patient-athletes' best course of return-to-play, utilized strength and conditioning coaches to ensure best return-to-play practices, and collaborated with on-site physical therapists on post-surgical patients' rehabilitation.
She was an athletic trainer student for football for both the 2023 and 2024 seasons at Utah State. Tonkin also spent time as an athletic training student at Saint Alphonsus Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Boise, Idaho, from January-March of 2024, Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, from January-May of 2023 and was at Capital High School in Boise from August-December of 2022.
Tonkin earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science & health occupations from Lewis-Clark State College in 2023. She received her Masters of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Idaho in 2024.
