After a tenure as a student assistant working with all aspects of the defense, Matt Schell was named defensive graduate assistant for Massachusetts football in Jan., 2016, promoted into a defensive analyst role ahead of the 2017 season and shifted into the director of operations spot ahead of the 2018 campaign.

During the 2017 season, Schell was responsible for the breakdown of practice and game film, statistical reports detailing defensive production, coordinating the scout team and assisting with day-to-day recruiting operations.

As an undergraduate, Schell worked as a video assistant with the New England Patriots. He was responsible for filming practices, individual workouts and games for the coaching staff. He worked with XOS computer software to digitize, edit and upload film and installed and operated the ICE software to assist coaches and scouts with specialized assignments.

Schell earned a dual undergraduate degree in finance and sport management from Massachusetts in May 2015.
