University of Massachusetts head football coach Walt Bell named Kyle Schmidt to the program’s staff in Spring 2019. Schmidt will serve as an offensive graduate assistant while working on the development of Minutemen quarterbacks. Schmidt was previously on staff with Bell at Maryland during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Schmidt arrives in Amherst after spending 2018 at Princeton in a quality control and assistant player personnel capacity. It was a remarkable year for the Tigers, which turned in a 10-0 season, capturing the Ivy League title and producing the program’s first undefeated run since 1964. His responsibilities included working with various defensive position groups during practice, breaking down film and building scouting reports. He also evaluated potential recruits and was instrumental in planning their official and unofficial visits.
As an undergraduate at Maryland, Schmidt filled a number of roles over his three years (2015-17) with the Terrapins program. Among other responsibilities, he coordinated flow of practices, participated in game plan meetings and assisted the recruiting staff in daily operations.
Early in his undergraduate career, Schmidt spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Temple as a strength & conditioning intern, recording players’ workout sets and repetitions. In his final year with the Owls, the squad tied a program record with 10 wins and reached the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl.
Originally from Marlton, New Jersey, Schmidt holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, which he earned in 2017 from Maryland.
