The native of Chantilly, Virginia, spent four seasons working at USF from 2016-19, during which his efforts were focused on the defensive side of the ball where he worked with the defensive backs (2016-17), defensive ends (2018) and linebackers (2019).

McClendon held a host of analytical and scouting-related responsibilities with Coastal Carolina during the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the program prepared for its elevation to Football Bowl Subdivision. The squad reached the NCAA playoffs in both of McClendon's seasons on the sideline in Conway.
Additionally, McClendon was also instrumental in the offensive and special teams scout groups at Coastal Carolina. He assisted in various aspects of game planning as well and contributed to aspects of defensive practice planning.
McClendon began his coaching career at his alma mater as the Salisbury University defensive line coach in 2012 and 2013. He served as one of the program's primary recruiters for talent-rich New Jersey as the Sea Gulls reached the NCAA playoffs in 2012 and won the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl in 2013.
McClendon is a two-time graduate of Salisbury, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2012 and a master's in post-secondary education in 2014. He also holds a master's degree in physical education from the University of South Florida (2018).
McClendon starred at Salisbury from 2009-12 as an all-ECAC and All-Empire 8 linebacker. In his four seasons, he played in 32 games, made 170 tackles (67-103) including 19.5 TFLs (84 yards lost) and 9.5 sacks (60 yards lost), broke up seven passes, earned five quarterback hurries, forced a pair of fumbles and recovered two fumbles.
