Alma Mater: Cambridge College '00; Maine '00
Season at Massachusetts: Second

Garrett Gillick joined the UMass football staff in January 2025 as linebackers coach after spending 11 seasons at New Hampshire, where he most recently served as associate head coach and defensive coordinator.

In his first season with the Minutemen, Gillick coached All-MAC Third Team selection Tyler Martin. Martin and fellow linebacker Timmy Hinspeter were later named to Phil Steele's 2026 Preseason All-MAC First and Third Teams, respectively.

During his tenure at New Hampshire, Gillick helped lead the Wildcats to six NCAA FCS playoff appearances, including a return to the postseason in 2024. He coached 2024 CAA Defensive Player of the Year Josiah Silver, who previously earned CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2021, while developing numerous all-conference, All-America and Academic All-America performers.

Gillick played a key role in establishing New Hampshire as one of the FCS's top defensive programs. In his first season with the Wildcats, UNH advanced to the FCS national semifinals while ranking second in the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring defense.

Before New Hampshire, Gillick spent three seasons as defensive line coach at Bentley, where he coached an all-conference performer each year and helped the Falcons rank among the nation's top 10 defenses. Bentley also led the Northeast-10 Conference in every major defensive statistical category in both 2011 and 2012.

Gillick began his coaching career in the high school ranks with stops at Lowell High School and Methuen High School in Massachusetts.

A Lowell, Massachusetts, native, Gillick earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Maine in 2000 and a master's degree in special education from Cambridge College in 2011. He was inducted into the Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
