University of Massachusetts head football coach Walt Bell welcomed Angelo Mirando to the program as quarterbacks coach prior to the 2019 season.

Bell elevated Mirando to the role of offensive coordinator ahead of the 2020-21 school year.

With a track record of explosive offenses at each of his prior coaching stops, Mirando arrived in Amherst following a three-year stint (2016-18) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eastern Kentucky.

His first season at EKU saw the Colonels finish in the top-50 nationally in total offense (399.1 ypg) as well as No. 32 in passing offense at 247.6 yards per game. The squad also ranked among the top-40 in FCS in third down conversions. On four occasions that year, Eastern’s offense produced over 400 yards and were within striking distance of that mark in two other contests. Individually, the Ohio Valley Conference saw three Colonels wide receivers rank in the top-15 in yards per catch.

The following year, quarterback Tim Boyle amassed 2,134 passing yards, the fifth-best in a single season in EKU history. Under Mirando’s guidance, Boyle was instrumental in the Colonels leading the OVC in both passing and completion percentage. Two players earned all-conference honors in wide receiver Ryan Markush and tight end Dan Paul, while the latter led the league at his position in catches (41) and yards (407). Boyle went on to sign with the Green Bay Packers in 2018.

Before trekking to Eastern Kentucky, Mirando was on staff for two seasons at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. While with the Red Ravens, Mirando held the roles of offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach. Mirando’s offense ranked sixth in the NJCAA (48.2 ppg) in 2014, before jumping up two spots to No. 4 (50.5 ppg) in 2015.

With Mirando as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, Ave Maria University finished the 2013 campaign at 8-2, setting a school record for wins. In the Gyrenes’ prior two seasons (2011-12), the program had a combined record of 1-17.

He spent three seasons at Mississippi State, holding the posts of offensive graduate assistant (2009), assistant quarterbacks coach (2010) and wide receivers coach (2011). In 2011, the Bulldogs registered the second-highest output in program history, while State’s wideouts reset a program record with 19 touchdown receptions.

He made his initial leap into the coaching world in 2008 at Florida. While serving as offensive quality control under Urban Meyer, the Gators captured the SEC Championship before being crowned National Champions.

Mirando was a three-year quarterback at Case Western Reserve University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management in 2008. Mirando then went on to complete a master’s degree in teaching at Mississippi State in 2011.
