Joos Named Assistant Athletic Director

AMHERST, Mass. -- Nick Joos has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at the University of Massachusetts, it was announced today by UMass Athletic Director Bob Marcum. Joos will oversee public relations activities and information services for the athletic department. He will begin his duties as Assistant Athletic Director on May 30.
Joos comes to UMass from the University of Nebraska, where he served as Director of Basketball Operations for the last five years. His duties included managing the basketball program's budget, coordinating all team travel, scheduling and community relations. Prior to his time as Director of Basketball Operations, Joos spent eight years in the Nebraska Sports Information Office, working as both an Associate and Assistant Sports Information Director. During that time he handled all public relations duties for the men's basketball team, in addition to editing game programs and serving as the secondary contact for the football team.
While at Nebraska, Joos served as the Executive Producer of the Danny Nee Television Show for the last 11 years, in addition to handling color commentary on men's basketball radio broadcasts for the past seven seasons. He also served as a press officer at the 1991 Pan American Games and the 1989 and 1990 United States Olympic Festivals.
Joos is a 1987 graduate of Iowa State University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. He worked as a student assistant in the Iowa State Sports Information Office for five years, assisting with the public relations duties for the Cyclones' 21-sport program.
"Nick Joos brings a tremendous amount of media relations and administrative experience from his time at Nebraska and Iowa State," said Marcum. "He has been involved in athletics at the highest levels and should be a great addition to our department."
