University of Massachusets Athletics
Communications
The University of Massachusetts' nationally-recognized athletics program is continually in the news and the school's communications staff is responsible for meeting the demands of not only the media, but of the department's many friends, fans and other interested publics.
The charge of the UMass Athletics communications staff is to effectively communicate information about UMass Athletics to the news media and other interested parties in order to positively promote the institution's student-athletes, coaches and staff members. To successfully meet this goal, staff members foster relationships with local and national media to effectively enhance the image of the University, UMass Athletics and the 21 intercollegiate athletic teams which wear the Maroon and White.
As a part of its daily activities, the communications staff is responsible for producing media guides, game day programs, schedule cards, news releases and internet updates at UMassAthletics.com for all UMass teams. The communications staff also provides game day management and statistical services as needed at the event site, responds to all news media inquiries, arranges all media interviews and compiles and maintains the historical records of each team through the collection of results, photographs, newspaper clippings and video. Staff members also work closely with the Atlantic 10 Conference, Hockey East, the ECAC, the NCAA and the sports governing organizations to gain further recognition for UMass student-athletes and coaches.
Please note, all interview requests must be submitted to the communications staff, which has the sole discretion of approving requests for accredited media outlets only. Home telephone numbers or cell phone numbers of student-athletes will not be given out. Additionally, media are prohibited from arranging interviews with student-athletes via social media outlets.
For gameday media credentials, please contact the appropriate sport contact listed below at least 24 hours in advance.
Action photos, head shots and video are available upon request for editorial usage. All can be transmitted electronically or via FTP.
All interview requests for staff members, the athletic director or general questions regarding the department may be directed to John Sinnett.
