Former Massachusetts men's basketball standout and nationally recognized coach Al Skinner was named the head coach at Kennesaw State over the weekend.
Skinner was a three-year letterman at UMass from 1971-74 after playing on the freshman team in 1970. He was a 3-time all-Yankee Conference pick and a Honorable Mention All-America choice as a senior 1973-74. He finished his career with 1,235 points, 749 rebounds and 320 assists in 79 games. The native of West Hampstead, N.Y. was inducted into the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982, and his No. 30 jersey was retired by the Minutemen on Feb. 18, 2004.
