UMass men's lacrosse is on a three-game winning streak with victories over Quinnipiac, Penn State and Hofstra in that order. Mark Dixon highlighted the streak in his weekly "takeaways" column. Here is Dixon's take on the recent success:
What's Happened: UMass won third in a row
Takeaway: The Minutemen had a tough start to the 2015 season, starting out 0-5 against a tough, robust schedule in Army, North Carolina, Harvard, Brown, and Albany. Since the loss to the Great Danes, UMass has rattled off three straight Ws, the latest a tough CAA road win over Hofstra by a count of 9-7. Defensively UMass overcame 11 penalties to earn the victory. Goalie Zach Oliveri led the effort, making 13 saves. Oliveri, a Long Island native, was playing his first game in his home territory since the passing of his father in late 2014. His emotion and effort was a game changer. Offensively Nick Mariano continues to excel and build on his outstanding freshman campaign. He is one of the best players you have never heard of. It looks like the season is back on track in Amherst.
