College basketball preseason: 20 under-the-radar transfers

While there's no perfect formula for predicting how a player will perform in a new league or on a new team, many believe that UMass sophomore transfer Derrick Gordon could be an X-factor in helping UMass return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. Count Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) among the believers. He listed the Plainfield, N.J. native among his '20 under-the-radar transfers' for this season.

Derrick Gordon, UMass: This 6-3 combo guard led Western Kentucky in both scoring and rebounding as the Hilltoppers advanced to the 2012 NCAA tournament. His presence next to Chaz Williams in the Minuteman backcourt has people in Amherst believing this will be the season that Derek Kellogg takes his alma mater to the field of 68.

There are a number of players on teams that appear on the Minutemen's schedule this year, including Gilvydas Biruta (Rhode Island), Alex Dragicevich (Boston College), Tyler Harris (Providence) and Jordan Sibert (Dayton).
