Massachusetts Drops Road Matchup With George Washington, 74-52

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Massachusetts basketball (11-17, 6-9 A-10) saw three players score in double digits but fell 74-52 George Washington (18-10, 7-8) at the Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday evening.  
 
The Minutemen won the rebounding battle for the 15th time this season, reeling in 38 boards including 15 on the offensive glass. 
 
Daniel Hankins-Sanford led the way for Massachusetts recording his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds on the night. The Charlotte, North Carolina native now ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in total double-doubles. 
 
Rahsool Diggins affected the game on both ends scoring 12 points while swiping a team-high four steals. Diggins is now five points away from reaching 1,000 for his career. 
 
Marqui Worthy also tallied 12 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field on the night. Worthy added three rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes of action. 
 
The Revolutionaries were led by Christian Jones who scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. 
 
Breaking Down The Action 
  • Sean Hansen opened the scoring in the matchup, finishing a layup for the game's first two points. 
  • Jayden Ndjigue responded on the next possession, leveling the game at 2-2 for the Minutemen. 
  • Rahsool Diggins followed with a layup of his own, the score sitting at 4-3 in favor of the Minutemen. 
  • Trey Autry reclaimed the George Washington advantage, 6-4, with a three-pointer at the 18:11 mark of the first half. 
  • Diggins responded with his first three-pointer of the game to once again retake the Massachusetts lead at 7-6.  
  • Daniel Hankins-Sanford sunk a layup for the game's fifth lead change, making it 9-8 Minutemen with 16:49 to play in the half. 
  • Ndjigue sunk a pair of free throws to extend the Minuteman advantage, 11-8. 
  • Diggins made it seven points in the game's first 10 minutes, the Massachusetts lead sitting at 14-10. 
  • Six points from Christian Jones keyed a 12-0 George Washington run, giving the Revolutionaries a 22-14 lead with 8:26 to go in the first half. 
  • Gerald Drumgoole Jr. hit a three-pointer to give the Revoutionaries an 11-point lead (27-16) with just under six minutes in the half. 
  • Hankins-Sanford finished a second-chance layup with 3:05 on the clock, cutting the deficit to 29-22 for the Minutemen. 
  • Tarique Foster ended the first half with a three-pointer, the score 33-25 in favor of GW. 
  • Rafael Castro started the second half with a tip-in, pushing the GW lead to 35-25 with 19:15 to play. 
  • Nate Guerengomba got on the board, sinking a pair of free throws, the score reading 47-31 with 13:51 on the clock. 
  • Marqui Worthy finished a pair of layups out of the under-12 media timeout, GW still leading 53-35. 
  • Worthy scored six points over the next two minutes of gametime, cutting the GW advantage to 59-43 with 7:34 remaining. 
  • Eight points from Jacoi Hutchinson fueled a 15-9 George Washington run to end the game, the final score 75-52.

  • Six newcomers saw action on the evening, with Rivera entering as a starter. 
  • Nate Guerengomba snagged three rebounds in 18 minutes of action. 
  • Malek Abdelgowad played 11 minutes, recording four points and four rebounds.
