67-58 Road Win Over St. Bonaventure Puts UMass Back on Track

ST. BONAVENUTRE, N.Y. – The Minutewomen (8-8, 3-2 A-10) worked their way back into the win column on Sunday, claiming a 67-58 victory over St. Bonaventure (5-11, 1-4 A-10) on the road.

Megan Olbrys led the charge for UMass, recording a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) on 50% shooting from the field.

Yahmani McKayle continued to be a two-way spark plug off the bench, tallying 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists.

Chinenye Odenigbo also reached double figures in the scoring column on Sunday, recording 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 5-8 shooting from the field.

Breaking Down the Action

Megan Olbrys scored four of the Minutewomen's first six points, jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the first 4 minutes of play.
Back-to-back layups from Chinenye Odenigbo extended the UMass lead to 14-5 with 2:43 left in the first quarter.
Yahmani McKayle found Lilly Ferguson for the and-one layup, converting at the line to make it a 17-7 ball game.
McKayle ended the opening quarter with back-to-back scores, ending the quarter with a 21-9 advantage.
The Bonnies rallied in the second quarter, opening with an 11-2 run to chip away at the UMass lead.
Olbrys found Momo LaClair for the long two-point jumper to halt the run.
Layups by McKayle and Ferguson brought the Massachusetts lead back up to nine with 2:35 left in the half.
The Minutewomen extended the lead to double figures off a McKayle jumper, her 10^th points of the half.
UMass went into the halftime break up 34-23 after Allie Palmieri finished the quarter with a strong drive to the basket.
Stefanie Kulesza sparked the offense to open the second half, going on a solo 7-2 run.
Olbrys would also put together an impressive quarter, scoring nine points on 3-4 shooting from the field.
McKayle sent the Minutewomen into the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead, hitting a mid-range jumper with 0:03 left in the third.
UMass once again went up double digits as Odenigbo and Olbrys combined for 11 points to go up 66-50 with 1:40 left in regulation.
St. Bonaventure attempted a last-minute surge with the Massachusetts starters on the bench, however an 8-1 run wasn't enough as UMass secured the 67-58 victory.
