Breen Joins Women’s Hoops Staff As Director Of Player Development

The two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year will serve as the Director of Player Development for the summer.
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts head coach Mike Leflar announced the hire of Sam Breen as the Director of Player Development on Friday afternoon. The two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year returns to her alma mater for the summer and will return to Europe to continue her professional career in the fall.
"I am thrilled to welcome Sam Breen back to UMass. Sam had a fantastic season playing in the Finnish League, and I know she will make a big impact back in Europe this Fall," said Leflar. "In the meantime, Sam is going to assist our staff and players in an on-court player development role."
Breen, the 2023 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year, finished her collegiate career as the all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,930 points at UMass while ranking second all-time in rebounds after passing 1,000 for her career. The two-time first-team all-Atlantic 10 selection ranks among the top-15 in 15 different career categories at UMass and posted 60 double-doubles in her career.
"Sam has tremendous passion for UMass. Her talent, work ethic, and attitude led our program to Championship heights," said Leflar. "I am excited she gets to share all those experiences with our current players. Sam will be a great resource to our team."
The Gibsonia, Pennsylvania native spent last season in Finland with Vimpelin Veto Koripallo, a member of Finland's top league Naisten Korisliiga. Breen averaged 23.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in her first professional season.
