Massachusetts Football Holds Annual Spring Game

The Minutemen closed out the spring football season.

AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts football held its annual spring game presented by Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.  

The team played a pair of live, 15-minute running time quarters of offense versus defense while mixing in several other segments to close out the spring practice schedule. 

Boland Award Winners Announced 

During the game, senior defensive back Te'Rai Powell and senior center Josh Atwood were announced a the 2024 Boland Award winners.  

The award is presented annually to one offensive and one defensive player who reflects former Minuteman Michael Boland's characteristics, including his hard-working attitude, determination, integrity and commitment to UMass football. 
 
Boland was a four-year letterman for Massachusetts (2013, 2015-17) and a stalwart on the offensive line at right guard. He appeared in 43 career games and made 36 starts, with 32 of those as the team's right guard. He passed away suddenly at home in Maryland on February 4, 2017, while preparing for the NFL Draft.

Chancellor's Inauguration Weekend  

During the game, newly inaugurated Chancellor Javier Reyes served as a guest coach on the sidelines.  

Reyes' inauguration as the 31st Chancellor took place on Friday, April 26 at the Mullins Center. Then on Saturday he headed to McGuirk Alumni Stadium to join Don Brown's staff for the afternoon.   

Alumni Back  

Over 150 former UMass football players attended the game, including Rene Ingoglia who joined Matt Goldstein as a guest on the broadcast.  

Season Tickets  

Massachusetts season tickets for the upcoming season went on sale on Saturday as well. The Minutemen open 2024 at home against Eastern Michigan on August 31 at McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Click here for more information on season tickets
