Daniels Jr. promoted from analyst role.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts football has announced that Steven Daniels Jr. has been named an assistant coach (defensive line). Daniels Jr., who was a linebacker for Boston College from 2012-16, had served as a defensive analyst since joining the UMass staff ahead of the 2023 season.

In Daniels Jr. first season with the Minutemen, he coached the Sam linebackers, coordinating drill work and rotations during practice and communicating daily with all defensive players. He also aided in player development as well as recruitment and retention.

Before arriving at Massachusetts, Daniels Jr. served as the Director of Defensive Recruiting at his alma mater, Boston College, in 2022. While on staff at Boston College, he coordinated official visits, Junior Day and summers camps, as well as travel for coaches. He set up recruiting boards for prospects in the primary area of Ohio and secondary areas of Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Prior to his time with the Eagles, Daniels spent three years at Bryant University as an Inside Linebackers Coach. During Daniels Jr.'s three seasons with the Bulldogs, he mentored four All-Conference linebackers, two Defensive Players of the Year, including two First Team All-Conference Linebackers in 2021, and one to All-New England honors.

Daniels Jr. spent time from November 2018 to May 2019 with the Northeastern Sports Operation as a Performance and Assistant Strength Coach at Northeastern University. He constructed and led strength and conditioning programs for the men's basketball, men's hockey and track and field teams. He aided in the development and assisted in the recovery program for players, and conducted check-ins and one-on-one sessions with student-athletes to overview person, social, educational and performance goals for the year.

Before Northeastern, Daniels Jr. worked as a player development intern for the Eagles football team, assisting in the recruitment of student-athletes and working one-on-one with linebackers and defensive ends in team drills and the evaluation of film.

In 2016, Daniels Jr. was a seventh-round draft pick for the then-named Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders). He also spent time as an inside linebacker with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants.

Daniels Jr. earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Boston College in 2018. While playing at Boston College from 2012-16, he led the 2016 Eagles defense in all statistical categories and received the Bulger Lowe award for Best Division I player in New England in 2015. Additionally, Daniels Jr. was a member of the 2015 First Team All-ACC (Coaches).
