Trio Honored As UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Andrew Bell, Kassidy Morris and Ryan Ufko will be recognized on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon.
AMHERST, Mass. – Andrew Bell of men's swimming and diving, Kassidy Morris of women's lacrosse and Ryan Ufko of hockey were selected as the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. The trio will be recognized on Wednesday afternoon during the UMass Sports Luncheon at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Bell advanced to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships after placing in the top-five in the three-meter dive last Monday and making the top-10 in the one-meter dive last Tuesday. In the three-meter dive, Bell combined for a 12-dive total of 730.80 in the Finals to take fifth, after achieving a Prelims/Quarterfinals score of 343.15. During the one-meter event, the sophomore claimed eighth in the Finals with a new school record total of 664.80 through 12-dives, after earning a score of 328.55 in the Prelims/Quarterfinals. The South Windsor, Connecticut, native, is only the second Minuteman diver in school history to represent Massachusetts at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, as Jason Cook '12) became the first diver to attend in 2009.
Morris scored three goals with two assists for five points as the Minutewomen defeated Saint Joseph's on Saturday in the Atlantic 10 home opener, 16-11. Morris extended her hat trick streak to six games in the win to bring her to a team-high 23 goals on the year. The attacker posted the game's opening goal and added her second in the third quarter on a behind the back goal that gave UMass an 11-7 lead. Morris added her second assist early in the fourth and completed the hat trick with the game's final goal.
Ufko scored the game-winner on Saturday in UMass' 3-1 Hockey East Quarterfinal victory at Providence and helped the Minutemen hold the Friars to one goal on 28 shots. The goal was the Smithtown, New York, native's 10th of the year and sixth game-winner, tying a program single-season record.
