Men's Soccer's Geczy Earns UMass Student-Athlete Of The Week Recognition

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer senior goalkeeper Alex Geczy has been selected as the UMass Student-Athlete of the Week after helping the Minutemen reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 2007, it was announced on Tuesday. The Newtown, Pennsylvania native will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, December 4, at 12 p.m. at the Berkshire Dining Common.
The netminder recorded his 10th clean sheet of the 2024 campaign this past Saturday in UMass' 1-0 win over No. 11 Virginia in the teams' Sweet Sixteen matchup. Geczy tied Zach Simmons for the program's single-season shutout record with a second-consecutive shutout this postseason against a top-15 ranked team (#6 Penn 11.24, #11 Virginia 11.30). Geczy turned aside all three shots he faced on Saturday in the victory over the Cavaliers.
The Minutemen will next face No. 3 Denver in the Elite Eight on Saturday, December 7, at 1 p.m. MST.
