Geczy and Recinos Named UMass Student-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer senior Alex Geczy and women's soccer senior Bella Recinos were each selected to the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week honor, as announced on Tuesday. The duo will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, October 23, at 1 p.m. in the Berkshire Room at the Berkshire Dining Commons.

Speakers at this week's luncheon will be men's soccer Head Coach Fran O'Leary and football Head Coach Don Brown. Cost to attend is $16.25 ($14.63 for UMass Alumni).

Alex Geczy anchored a stout Minutemen defense that posted a 2-0-0 record on the week, earning his sixth clean sheet of the season against Holy Cross. The senior goalkeeper followed up his shutout with a six-save effort on the road against Rhode Island in a 2-1 comeback victory.

Bella Recinos and the Minutewomen took down Loyola Chicago, 2-0, in the lone game of the week. Recinos scored the game-winning goal for UMass, marking her fourth of the year, while netting her ninth goal of the season. She sent the full 90 minutes in the pitch and totaled one shot that was on target.
