Lynch-Adams logs 10th and 11th touchdowns of the season, becomes program’s FBS single-season rushing leader

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts football team dropped a 31-18 decision to the University of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium (12,291).

Redshirt junior Kay'Ron Lynch-Admas totaled two touchdowns and 51 yards rushing on the day. His two scores marked his 11th and 12th of the season, while his 51-yards added to his single-season total of 1,157 yards to become the program's leading rusher in the FBS era.

Quarterback Taisun Phommachanh threw for 230 yards on 18-for-30 passing with a touchdown. Anthony Simpson hauled in six passes for 107 yards with a 40-yard long reception. Gino Campiotti scored in his second consecutive game, catching a 10-yard touchdown pass, which marked his fourth touchdown of the season.

For the UMass defense, Nahji Logan matched his career-high with nine tackles, followed by Te'Rai Powell with eight and Tyler Rudolph with seven. Billy Wooden tallied 2.5 TFLs for 11 yards and a sack for seven yards. Jordan Mahoney had his first forced fumble of the season, as Rudolph came away with the recovery, marking his second recovery of the season.

How It Happened

Connecticut took a 6-0 lead on pick six by Mumu Bin-Wahad with 11:16 to play in the first quarter.

Te'Rai Powell and Dominic Schofield combined to stop UConn on fourth-and-one from the UMass five-yard line with 1:02 left in the first quarter but were unable to convert the stop into points the other way.

UConn's Joe McFadden added a pair of field goals and Victor Rosa had a touchdown to give the Huskies a 19-0 lead at the half.

On UConn's first play of the second half, Jordan Mahoney forced a fumble that Tyler Rudolph was able to recover. It set up a six play, 37-yard touchdown drive by the Minutemen, capped off by a 10-yard touchdown grab from Gino Campiotti with 11:58 left in the third quarter.

On the next drive, the Minutemen held the Huskies to a 47-yard field goal attempt that sailed wide right. But following a UMass punt, Cam Edwards finished off a nine-play, 70-yard drive with a touchdown run to move it to 25-6 with 1:08 left in the third quarter.

Massachusetts put together another touchdown drive early in the fourth quarter to make it a 25-12 game. The drive, which was five plays and 73 yards, included a 40-yard grab by Anthony Simpson and a one-yard Kay'Ron Lynch-Adams touchdown run.

Lynch-Adams added his second score of the day with another one-yard rush with 02:03 remaining in the contest.
