Regueira joins the staff after 24 years of service for the Miami Police Department.
AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts basketball head coach Frank Martin announced the addition of Tony Regueira to the staff as the team's Sports Performance Coach on Wednesday afternoon. Regueira joins the Minutemen after 24 years with the Miami Police Department, where he oversaw training of all new recruits and operationals.
"Tony becomes one of the few strength and conditioning coaches who was also a Division I basketball player," said Martin. "He has been preparing for this opportunity for the last five or six years after being a longtime high school basketball coach and police officer in the City of Miami. Tony will bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and discipline to the job along with tremendous basketball knowledge."
Regueira was most recently a commander with Miami PD before retiring in April. The Miami, Fla. Native coached high school basketball at La Salle for six years and was also a school teacher for 11 years before joining law enforcement. Regueira played basketball collegiately at Florida International University, where he appeared in 53 games during his final years at FIU from 1988 to 1990. He played his high school basketball at Miami High and was inducted into the Miami High Sports Hall of Fame.
