Massachusetts Spring Football Notebook: Week 2
April 10, 2022 | Football
AMHERST, Mass. — The Massachusetts football program completed their second week of spring practice this week. This week, Coach Dudzinski and Miller along with Coach Brown gave updates on the progression of the team.
VERSATILITY ON DEFENSE
This week, defensive coordinator Keith Dudzinski discussed the versatility that we can expect on defense from the Minutemen.
"We're planning on attacking the quarterback as much as possible. We plan to put a lot of stress on them [the quarterback] with our different packages. We're going to be multi-faceted on the defensive side of the ball."
This is coach Dudzinski's third stint with the Minutemen. Since making the transition from FCS to an FBS program, the changes and potential in the program are prominent.
"It's been great to see the new football facility, and the bubble. These are great improvements, and I think the players are also doing a great job in buying into coach Brown's philosophy day in and day out. We're building a hard-nosed football team here, and we look forward to every day to get better."
BACK WITH THE CONTACT
This week began with the team in their second session in full pads, allowing the staff to see how players translate their technique into realistic playing situations. On Tuesday, Coach Brown touched on seeing the players in full pads early on in spring camp.
"From a technique and fundamental standpoint, that's where they make their living. It's in the pads. We're able to have a pretty comprehensive practice on both sides of the ball,' said Brown. 'Especially with a lot of new concepts being thrown around right now.'
FOCUS UP FRONT
Since serving as the interim head coach this fall, Alex Miller has settled back in as the associate head coach, and shifting his focus back to the offensive line room.
"As crazy as it was, I was able to keep a lot of focus there during that time. It's great to be back with just them. A lot of those guys are back. We didn't have to shake off too much rust. They have just done such a good job over the last 15 months or so of buying into the culture I want to have in this room. Now we can just keep building off of that."
The Minutemen will head into week three of practice as they look ahead to the 2022 Spring Game on Saturday, April 30. Kick off is set for 12:00 p.m. at Mcguirk Alumni Stadium.
